Hotel Piccola Fenice, Venice

The three-star Hotel Piccola Fenice is a one- or two-minute walk from the Gran Teatro La Fenice, Venice's legendary opera house. It's also convenient to shopping and to the sights around the Piazza San Marco, which is within walking distance of the hotel.

The Piccola Fenice is tiny, but its seven rooms would qualify as suites anywhere else: Six of the seven rooms have separate sleeping areas (with convertible sofas in the living rooms), the seventh has a walk-in closet, and all have butler pantries with refrigerators and coffeemakers. For hotel services, including a complimentary buffet breakfast and check-in after 7 p.m., guests go to the four-star Hotel Fenice des Artistes nearby.

How to reach the Hotel Piccola Fenice from the Sant'Angelo airport-boat pier (Alilaguna Linea Arancio):

Hotel Piccola Fenice map directions

  1. As you leave the boat pier, walk down the narrow street ahead of you.

  2. In a moment, you'll come to an L-shaped square. Bear left, cross the square, and exit via the Calle de l'Albero.

  3. Turn right at the end of the short street, then immediately turn left, cross the bridge, and walk one short block to the Calle Avvocati.

  4. At the Calle Avvocati, turn right and walk one block to the Campo Sant'Angelo.

  5. Look for the Calle de la Madonna, which will be across the square and on your left.

  6. Follow the Calle de la Madonna as it zig-zags to the next street, where you'll see the Hotel Piccola Fenice on your left near the corner. (Look for a wooden door with a discreet white sign.)
